Books Read: Miranda Dickinson - A Parcel for Anna Browne

Anna Browne is an ordinary woman living an ordinary life. Her day job as a receptionist in bustling London isn't exactly her dream, yet she has everything she wants. But someone thinks Anna Browne deserves more . . .

When a parcel addressed to Anna Browne arrives, she has no idea who has sent it. Inside she finds a beautiful gift - one that is designed to be seen. And so begins a series of incredible deliveries, each one bringing Anna further out of the shadows and encouraging her to become the woman she was destined to be. As Anna grows in confidence, others begin to notice her - and her life starts to change.

But who is sending the mysterious gifts, and why?

Who doesn't like receiving presents?  But what if you don't know who they're from?  This is the situation that receptionist Anna Browne finds herself in when she receives a mystery package at the newspaper office that she works in.  And if the first package was a pleasant surprise, what she doesn't expect is for her life to be turned upside down as the mystery packages continue to arrive attracting the interest of those around her and not always in a good way...

Anna was your typical girl-next-door who is more used to blending into the background than being the centre of attention so was clearly uncomfortable with being in the spotlight.  But it was great to see the changes and whole new confidence that came about with the receipt of each new gift as she tries to evaluate their meaning, it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into each gift, who the mysterious sender is and why they were sent to her.

Although Anna was clearly the star of the show, there was a diverse and interesting cast of secondary characters who all played their parts to make this such an enjoyable read but one of my absolute favourites would have to be security guard Ted who certainly had a vivid imagination where the parcels were concerned!  And it would be remiss of me not to mention the two potential love interests for Anna, reporter Ben and neighbour Jonah, who were the complete opposites from each other but will either one of them steal her heart?

If you're a regular follower of Miranda Dickinson on Twitter (or Facebook) you'll know that she regular posts asking for suggestions to #GetInvolved whilst writing and the winning entries get added into the storyline so it was great to discover these items throughout the book as you're reading.  But it was also great to recognise a couple of names of characters who'd been inspired by fellow bloggers Rea and Megan so it was the real Rea and Megan I was picturing in my head everytime they appeared whilst I was reading ;)

Over the years I have read all of Miranda's books so knew to expect a story with a lot of heart in it, and although A Parcel for Anna Browne was longer than any of her previous books don't let that put you off as it was a fabulous feel-good read from start to finish.

I'd like to thank Francesca at Pan Macmillan for sending me a proof copy of A Parcel for Anna Browne to review.
