Books Read: Isabella Connor - Beneath an Irish Sky

The past is never over ...

Jack Stewart thought he'd put the past behind him. On the surface, he has everything - success, money, a big house and he is never short of an attractive woman by his side, but a tragic road accident shatters his world.

Raised as an Irish Traveller, Luke Kiernan hasn't had it easy, and when he wakes in a Dublin hospital to find the man he's hated since childhood at his bedside, he's hungry for revenge.

Two very different worlds collide, bringing new dangers, exposing past deceits, and unearthing dark family secrets buried long ago. But from tragedy springs the promise of a fresh start with two women who are intent on helping Jack and Luke mend their lives.

Can new love heal old wounds, or are some scars there for good?

Jack Stewart's life is about to get turned upside down following a phone call from Dublin telling him that someone he once loved has been killed in a road accident.  But what he thought would be a quick trip to Dublin turns out to be a little more complicated than that as he discovers that she had kept a secret from him.

Luke wakes up in hospital alone to the discovery that his mother has died but it's clear that there's more troubling him than just his injuries from the crash. What is his story and what is his connection to Jack?

I really liked the fact that there were two lead characters that were both male coming from different backgrounds, English upper class and Irish Travellers, which made for fascinating back stories.  And even though we never get to meet Annie in person, she's very much an integral part of this story linking both Jack, Luke and their families.

From the very first chapter after Jack receives the phone call I was immediately hooked and a lot of questions were buzzing round my head wondering why Annie had left Jack in the first place, where has she been all these years, and most importantly why had she kept such an important secret from him?  All the answers and some even more shocking secrets were uncovered over the 8 hour period I spent today reading this book, I just couldn't put it down!

When I know a story has been written by two authors, as this one has by Liv Thomas and Val Olteanu under the pen name Isabella Connor, I find myself looking for signs of disjointedness or different writing styles but I'm pleased to say none were obvious as the story flowed naturally throughout. I definitely hope to read more from these ladies in the future.

I'd like to thank Choc Lit for sending me a copy of this eBook to review.
