When Sharon asked me to review this book I jumped at the chance, it really sounded like my kind of book. The second I started reading, I got lost in the story. From the very first page this book grabbed my attention and kept me entertained throughout. The book is written in diary entries, each one stating the day and time that the story occurs. The book is set over 4 days at the wedding of the main character Rachel's best friends wedding in France.
Six months ago life couldn't have been better for Rachel, she was married to the man of her dreams and the couple were trying for their first baby together. Fast forward to the present and Rachel is nearing 30 at an alarming rate. She never dreamed that she would be served divorce papers, and her dream of having a baby with Doug is now a thing of the past. Rachel makes and sells her own soap and beauty range, she is now living in the granny flat at her parents house and struggling to sell her stock at the markets stalls around Dublin. But when Rachel bumps into a gorgeous man in a coffee shop in Dublin and again on the plane to France, Rachel thinks that she might just be able to get over Doug and give her struggling business a helping hand while she's at it.
I loved the characters in this book, they are all very well developed and their background stories are easy to follow and well described. Even though there are a lot of characters in this book, each one adds something to the story and so all characters are completely relevant. Nick especially for me added something special to the book. The chemistry between Nick and Rachel was beautifully written and the will they won't they element kept the story interesting and kept me at the edge of my seat. Characters like Saranna and Elaine, really added to the story and are their background stories also added to the main plot nicely. Rachel is a character that everyone can relate to, everyone has been down on their luck at some stage and the way that Rachel is picking herself back up after a particularly low point in her life is very admirable. I was really rooting for Rachel to find love and happiness as the book progressed.
Even though I am Irish myself, and probably a little bit biased, I think there is nothing like reading good Irish fiction and this book is right up there with some from very well known Irish authors. It has great characters and kept me interested throughout. Could It Be You? is my kind of book and I am really looking forward to reading more from this great new Irish author.
