Kerry Tambini has always wanted to live in the seaside town of Shorling-on-Sea after spending many happy childhood holidays there with her family so she just needs to convince her husband Rob that he'd love it there too. Her luck might just be in as her aunt has offered them her cottage rent-free for a while so after a short break there with their two kids, Mia and Freddie, Rob reluctantly agrees.
At first Kerry and the kids will live there on their own whilst Rob spends the week living and working in London whilst they try and sell their house. But it's soon clear that whilst Kerry is settling in perfectly and making new friends, and getting used to having a dog after finally giving in to the kids pleas, Rob is not quite as on board with the plans as first thought. And during a night out with his colleagues one drunken mistake will have far-reaching consequences for all of them...
Pedigree Mum was such an easy story to get into and I quite often found myself losing track of the time whilst curled up with the book reading as the story flowed effortlessly. I found myself willing Kerry on in her struggle to make a new life for herself and the kids, trying to be understanding at how Rob got himself in that position and how he was trying to do the right thing even if it wasn't what he wanted, as well as enjoying getting to know the various other characters that we get to meet throughout the book.
I loved the introduction of the dog Buddy who certainly had plenty of spirit and kept everyone on their toes and even when he was up to mischief you could help but have a chuckle. He certainly seemed to help Kerry relax and fit into a more relaxed lifestyle than she used to have in the city.
Overall I really enjoyed this book by Fiona Gibson and will definitely read more books that she's written in the future. I've got a copy of her previous book, The Great Escape, that I'd bought last year in my massive TBR pile so will try and get to read this sometime this year.
